Watervliet police investigating possible abduction

WATERVLIET, N.Y. -- Police in Watervliet are investigating a possible abduction. It happened around 5 p.m. Thursday in front of the Dunkin Donuts on 19th Street.

Police say after interviewing witnesses, they were told that a man pulled up behind a girl in the parking lot and confronted her. According to police, the two argued before the man forced the girl into his car and drove down an alley.

The man is described as being tall, approximately 30-years-old, bald head and large build. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and shorts. Witnesses say he was driving a vehicle described as a newer Honda Civic or Accord bearing a gold New York State license plate. According to the witnesses, the first three characters of the plate read “GBC.”

The girl is described as approximately 15- or 16-years-old, small build with blond hair, wearing black framed glasses. She was last seen wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt and was carrying a hand bag.

It is unknown at this time if the subjects were familiar with one another. However, police say one witness says he saw the two arguing in the vehicle as it passed him.

Police say the department is investigating the incident as an abduction until facts or evidence determine otherwise.

If anyone has any information regarding this incident, please contact the Police Department at 270-3836 or 270-3833.
