HALFMOON, N.Y. -- Drivers will still need to look for alternate routes as work continues Friday and this weekend on the renovation project on the Twin Bridges. Work on the bridge will end Sunday at noon.
Weekend construction started three weeks ago with the northbound lane closed Friday from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. on Monday. But to this point, that plan has caused significant traffic delays and diverted weekend travelers to Route 9 instead.
Cuomo announced Thursday that work on the bridge will end Sunday at noon so traffic heading back on Sunday nights won't be back up. He says he would rather have a few more weekends of work than have traffic tie ups.
The state DOT says the weekends were chosen originally as safer and more cost-efficient times to work and also to not impact weekday commuters.
