BALLSTON, N.Y. -- A boy was killed while trying to stop a minivan from rolling into oncoming traffic. It happened around 3:20 p.m. Monday in the Town of Ballston.
State Police say a Dodge Caravan with a 12-year-old, 4-year-old, and 2-year-old inside started rolling onto Blue Barns Road from a driveway. That's when troopers said 11-year-old Lane Rowe ran behind the minivan and tried to stop it from rolling onto the road. While trying to stop the van, Rowe was knocked down and run over. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
State Police are reconstructing the events that led to the accident to determine how the car rolled down the driveway.
None of the children inside the minivan were injured.
Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake's superintendent tells us Rowe was a sixth grader at the middle school. There will be crisis counselors on hand at the school.
