LATHAM, N.Y. -- And the supermarket wars continue! Price Chopper executives announced Friday plans to upgrade a number of stores in the Capital Region.
The largest renovation at the Latham location. The plan is to add another 10,000 square feet to the supermarket, then redesign the interior to include several new features.
There will be a restaurant section with indoor and outdoor seasonal seating for up to 200 people. Diners will have 16 cuisines to chose from - all menu items made fresh to order. The new store will also have a cooking school, a drive through pharmacy, and will grow fresh produce on-site.
Executives say it's the most ambitious project they've undertaken.
Price Chopper Executive Chairman Neil Golub said, "There are those who lead and there are those who follow. And over time, the followers tend to catch up. So we have to step up again and take a giant step forward."
Price Chopper says the new Latham store will open next fall. From 2008 to 2014, the supermarket chain will have renovated 19 stores in the Capital Region, an investment totaling $107 million.
