WYNANTSKILL, N.Y. -- A Wynantskill home is damaged by fire on Sunday afternoon. Firefighters said they found heavy smoke and flames when they arrived at the home on Hidley Road.

Two people were home at the time, but they were able to get out safely. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control quickly, however, they said they faced problems because of that.

"The situation was exacerbated by a propane tank on the back porch that blew off from the intensity of the heat, which intensified the flames until we got enough water on it to knock it down," explained John Obamsawin, North Greenbush District Fire Chief.

The chief said the fire began in the back of the home, but the cause is unknown.
