ALBANY, N.Y. -- A solemn ceremony was held at the Empire State Plaza, honoring the sacrifices of firefighters across the state. Six new names were added this year to the Fallen Firefighters Memorial.

Firefighters, their families and lawmakers gathered to honor those who died while on duty.

"To remember they have given their all that last measure of their own lives, so that their loves ones, families, homes, communities and way of life may continue forward in time, safe and secure," said Steve Englebright, NYS Assembly.

One of the six firefighters honored was George Hamilton. He died in 1922 after battling a two-story fire in Cohoes.
