TROY, N.Y. -- A historic Troy newspaper can now be accessed online. The old Troy Sentinel is now digitized at the Troy Public Library.

The famous poem, ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas,' was first published in the Sentinel back in 1823. Troy Public Library's director explains why digitization makes sense.

Paul Hicok said, "It is always a question of deterioration when you're talking about the newspapers, the hard copy. But we're also concerned about the deterioration of microfilm. Of course we have many, many reels. So, the digitization, I think, is the best way to go forward with o preserving local history."

This was made possible because of a grant from Gramercy Communications. The PR firm recently relocated to the building formerly occupied by the newspaper.
