ROTTERDAM JUNCTION, N.Y. -- After foregoing the tradition last year because of devastation from Tropical Storm Irene and the remnants of Lee, the Rotterdam Junction Fire House's Haunted House is back up and running.

Fire officials said they didn't have time to get the house ready after last year's storms and flooding. Instead, the focus was on providing meals and shelter to displaced community members. But, officials said the families in Rotterdam Junction missed the Haunted House and asked for it to be brought back this fall.

"After the devastation of last year's flooding, the community definitely wants this. They get together and they have fun just as much as we do, and they help us run it," said Lt. James Backer, Rotterdam Junction Fire Department.

Becker said that in years past, the haunted house would draw about 300 people over the four days that it is open. The Haunted House will be open from October 26-31. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and admission is free.
