If you've re-written that resume several times and applied to dozens of jobs with no avail, you're not alone. But as YNN's Maria Valvanis explains, the Department of Labor is offering up their services to try and bring unemployment rates down in the Mohawk Valley.

FULTON COUNTY, N.Y. -- "Looking for work, traveled to Florida, Texas, Louisiana, pretty much bad out there all over the place."

Two years later and Johnstown resident Jerry Emden still can't find work.

"Nothing in my pay range, nothing in my skill level."

And he's not the only one. Fulton County has the fourth highest unemployment rate in the state. But through Governor Andrew Cuomo's new initiative, the hope is for that number to change.

"We're going into specific communities across the state that are long term unemployed," said Michael Clark from the Department of Labor.

Employment specialists are meeting with job seekers to talk about ways they can better market themselves.

Clark said, "Some of them just need to be updated on resume, some of them need interview skills update, so we help identify what they actually need."

"They gave me a lot of good job leads, gives me a good start to get out and go where I need to go," said Emden.

And local colleges are also trying to help by offering programs targeted at the area's job market.

"We bring in employers and say what are the skills that you need and what are the jobs that you foresee and that way we keep our curriculum current," said Fulton Montgomery Community College President Dustin Swanger.

Staying up-to-date on the local job market is just half the battle. With thousands of people searching for jobs, the clock is always ticking.

Emden said, "Unemployment's running out, got to do something quick, got to eat."
