Cleanup of a massive rock slide in Washington County continued Tuesday. It happened on Route 4 in Fort Ann just after 9 a.m. Monday. Our Brooke Selby has been following this story and joined us with the latest.

FORT ANN, N.Y. -- While massive boulders came crashing down Monday, crews have been working around the clock to clear the rubble. The inconvenience is almost as large as the rocks themselves.

One trucker, Andy Wheelock of Syracuse, said using the detour he was just "bringing a load of corrugated cardboard from Rutland to Vermont and it’s kind of hard going around the twisting winding roads on Route 149."

The site of the slide is smack in the middle of a main road from New York to Vermont.

One traveler who lives in Vermont said "I just came back from ‘Toga and it's affected me both ways.”

The spokesperson from NYS Department of Transportation, Bryan Viggiani, said, "The detour is approximately 21 miles long. That's the official detour we're sending commercial and local vehicles on."

This is not only one of the largest rock slides DOT says they can remember but it's also one of the largest detours they've had. The focus of the investigation moves to why this happened and whether or not the road is safe.

Viggiani said, "The geologists have gone up there, they're reviewing the data, they're sending it back to Albany to get a better idea of the rock out there.

As geologists continue to examine the safety of the area and the repairs needed, the detours will remain.
