SPARROWBUSH, N.Y. -- Crews search by water and by ground in the Hawk's Nest area of Sparrowbush and eventually find what they were looking for. A body is pulled to shore along the Delaware River.
"Based on the type of clothing, it would appear to be a male," said New York State Police Capt. Joseph Tripodo.
The man, who has not been identified, was discovered partially discomposed. Police won't say if any identification was found on him or if foul play was involved.
"That part has not been determined yet. Obviously, the investigation is still in its infancy stages. So we have not yet determined how that individual got there or what he was doing there until he succumb to his injuries," said Tripodo.
The discovery was made after a fisherman contacted police, saying he was in the area and saw human remains. The call was received Monday night.
"Due to the darkness, the terrain is extremely treacherous and (with) the fog on the river, we decided to keep a trooper on the scene and start at first daylight," said Tripodo.
The man was located in a remote, hard to reach spot in the woods. The body was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center where an autopsy is being performing. Police say it should be completed quickly, giving better understanding on who this individual is and what lead to his death.
