A young child was taken to a burn center in Boston after a house fire on Benson Street in Albany on Wednesday. Lori Chung has the latest from the scene.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Firefighters said a young child is severely injured in a fire in Albany. It broke out around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning on Benson Street. When firefighters arrived, the front porch was engulfed in flames.

According to firefighters, some family members were outside of the home who told them there was still a child inside. The child was found inside a bedroom and taken to Albany Med. She was later taken to a burn center in Boston for treatment.

The child lived in the home, along with her mother and four other children. Three of those children were inside when the fire started, but were able to make it outside safely. The mother has burns to her hand, but she has no other injuries.

Firefighters said the fire was knocked down quickly, but there were certainly some scary moments for the family.

"She was saying my grandchild is in there, the grandchild had already been removed. Everyone was accounted for, I tried to tell her look, and she was saying you got to get in the building, I said my people will go in the building, they're in the building," said Jerry Jennings, (D) Albany Mayor.

Robert Forezzi, Albany Fire Chief, added, "They went to work right away with a large two-and-a-half inch hose line, knocked down a lot of fire, and of course, they have to get inside and put that fire out also. So it was a joint effort, there were two efforts going on simultaneously. There was a fire suppression being taken along with a primary search."

The building is a two-family house. The residents in the other apartment were able to make it out safely.
