NEW YORK -- The race for the 18th Congressional district is tightening. That's according to a new Siena Poll. The latest numbers show Republican Congresswoman Nan Hayworth with a seven point lead, 49 to 42 percent over Democrat Sean Patrick Maloney.
A month ago, Hayworth was holding on to a 13 point lead. However, that poll included Working Families Party candidate, Larry Weissmann.
More voters view Hayworth favorably than view her unfavorably by a margin of 48 to 43 percent.
Maloney is not experiencing the same likability. 33 percent view him favorably while 38 percent view him unfavorably.
Siena pollster Steve Greenberg says Hayworth still has a lead in this race because of her good numbers among independents. She leads 53-to-34 percent among those voters.
Hayworth continues to be strongest in the portion of the district that includes Orange, Westchester, and Putnam counties. Meanwhile, Maloney has a slight lead in Dutchess County.
