SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Last week she was the Kid of the Week, and now Kora Austin, 11, is doing her part to fight back against heart disease. Austin was born with heart defects that together cause her pulmonary artery to malfunction and prevents proper blood flow to her lungs.
This walk marks the 11th heart walk for Austin, and was just four days after having stents in her heart adjusted. Austin is also the Walk's Junior Ambassador this year. She said having all her friends and family surrounding her at the event is a great feeling.
"A long time ago, if I was born then, I would not be here because now we have all the surgeries and everything, and just having him be successful with me, and having me be like a normal kid is just a great feeling," said Austin.
Austin said she might have another surgery, but if that does happen, she hopes the doctor will fix her heart and she'll be able to do even more in the future.
