SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- The Schenectady County Sheriff's Department worked to get guns off the city's streets. In the department's sixth gun buy back event, they collected 5 long rifles, 6 hand guns, and 1 non-working gun.

Those willing to turn guns over to police receive gift cards worth $25 up to $250.

"I believe the program's been pretty successful. The handguns you get, the working ones, we'll give you $200 for which is not a bad chunk of change," said Lt. Jason Temple, Schenectady County Sheriff's Department.

If anyone would like more information on the program, you can call Sheriff Dagostino at (518) 388-4300.
