INTERNATIONAL -- Cycling's governing body has agreed to strip Lance Armstrong of his seven Tour de France titles and banned him for life.

The president of the International Cycling Union says the federation accepted the US Anti Doping Agency's report on Armstrong. That report has claimed Armstrong was involved in "the most sophisticated, professionalized, and successful doping program."

Last week, Armstong stepped down as chairman of the LiveStrong Foundation and lost almost all of his major sponsors.

Today's decision clears the way for Tour de France organizers to officially remove Armstrong's name from the record books, erasing his consecutive victories from 1999-2005.
