LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- Local pilgrims have returned from their trip to Rome to witness the canonization of local Saint Kateri Tekakwitha. The travelers returned home to St. Pius Church in Loudonville.
Bishop Howard Hubbard said the event meant a great deal to the Diocese of Albany.
"Well we really are the Diocese of Saints. We've got Isaac Jones, and the other martyrs from Auriesville. Another saint that was declared this week was Mother Marianne Cope, and she's listed as a saint from Syracuse, but really the first part of her life was spent in the diocese of Albany," said Bishop Hubbard.
Going forward, Bishop Hubbard hopes the number of saints that comes from this area will make those shrines places of pilgrimage for people from all over the world.
