NATIONWIDE -- Several states and the District of Columbia have followed suit with New York in declaring states of emergency. North Carolina, New Jersey, and Delaware have all made the announcement ahead of Sandy's arrival.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is cutting his Romney campaign short to head back home for the storm. Christie was also calling for evacuations of all Atlantic City casinos and the state's barrier islands by Monday afternoon. He is also closing state parks.

In Delaware, the Governor issued a mandatory evacuation for more than 50,000 residents living along the coast. The big concern in North Carolina is that a temporary bridge connecting to Hatteras Island, which was built after Hurricane Irene, could be washed out again.
