UNITED STATES -- President Barack Obama says Hurricane Sandy's impact will be felt by millions. The president says FEMA is working close with state and local governments to make sure food, water and emergency generation is available for those hit the hardest.

He says he believes everybody is taking the situation seriously.

"Millions of people are going to be affected. So, the most important message I have for the public now is please listen to what your state and local officials are saying. When they tell you to evacuate you need to evacuate. Do not delay, don't pause, don't question. This is a serious storm and could potentially have fatal consequences if people don't act quickly," said President Obama.

Obama went on to say that everyone is extraordinarily grateful for the first responders who are working 24/7.
