CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. -- National Grid crews are working through the night to restore power to anyone who may have lost it.

The state saw outages of about 20,000 customers and half of those came from the Capital Region. Saratoga, Columbia and Fulton counties have seen the most outages.

National Grid says most of the damage is coming from downed trees coming into contact with power lines.

If it takes some time for power to come back on, it's because crews have to act safely in these unsafe conditions.

"We have to watch out for the safety of our crews as well. Putting our crews up in buckets, when we have 50 mile an hour winds. It really isn't safe for them, so we really have to wait for these winds dying down to really get a sense of the damage, and really get out crews out there," said National Grid Spokesman Patrick Stella.

National Grid says they expect to have power restored quickly. They have been preparing for days and have utility crews from as far away as Colorado in to help out.
