NORTHEAST -- Amtrak train service is still being restored after Sandy left down trees and damage to many tracks along the northeast corridor.

Some service is operational today, but all service south of the Albany-Rensselaer station is shut down. Officials say they are still removing water and making repairs to track, signal and power systems within its tunnels under the Hudson and East rivers.

Because of the amount of water in the tunnels, Amtrak does not have a date for restoration to service to and from Penn Station.
