PITTSFIELD, Ma. -- The Ice River Springs water plant in Pittsfield is quenching the need for water in Sandy-stricken areas.

"In a situation like this, us being so close to it that this plant has become one of the main suppliers for Ice River Springs to these companies," said Mark Gott, the plant manager.

Canadian-based Ice River Springs works with FEMA in times of natural disaster. But, Gott and his workers are working even harder after its sister plant in Pennsylvania lost power in this week's storm.

"We saw this coming four or five days prior to the hurricane, so we ramped up at that time to prepare for this," said Gott.

The Pittsfield location is making a huge water delivery to New York and New Jersey.

"We probably would've been supplying the disaster regardless. But, because our plant in Allentown is down, the production here has doubled," said Gott.

Just to give you an idea of how large of a shipment Ice Springs will be making to Sandy stricken areas in New York and New Jersey, let's do a little number work. There are about 84 cases on one pallet. There are about 550 pallets heading to New York and New Jersey, that's about 40,000 cases, totalling almost a million bottles.

As one might assume, it's been a busy few days for those working in the plant.

"We're running 24/7, seven days a week," said Gott.

But, they say they're not complaining.

"It's great. Everybody's so excited here. They're pumped. They feel like they're part of a big picture, helping everybody out. It's nice," said Mike Duguay, production manager.

Pittsfield's Ice River Springs will continue to ship bottles to New York and New Jersey over the coming days.
