By: Web Staff

KINGSTON, N.Y. -- A Veterans Day ceremony is held in Kingston on Sunday, honoring one veteran from Hopewell Junction. Arthur Alva Quick received awards after more than 40 years of waiting, thanks to the Ulster County Veterans Service.

The Vietnam veteran was honored for 10 years in active duty and 11 years in the naval reserves. Quick said receiving this is an honor of a lifetime.

"It's a big honor on Veterans Day, and it's more of an honor because the director of the Ulster County Vietnam Veterans Services, he's also a captain in the reserves. He's a full captain and he's the one that's presenting them to me, which means more to me than if the President was to give them to me," said Quick.

Al Teetsel, a guest speaker, added, "When you see a veteran out there, please thank them for their years of service. If you see a current soldier in uniform walking down the street, shake his hand and say, 'hey, thanks for your service'."

More than 100 people came out to honor Quick at the Kingston City Hall.
