Shine the Light on Lung Cancer vigil

Many families are impacted by cancer. A vigil in Albany today aims to ‘Shine a Light on Lung Cancer’ by raising awareness and empowering those affected. The event is taking place at 6 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- A vigil will be held tonight for lung cancer victims, with an important message: No one deserves to get lung cancer.

The National Lung Cancer Alliance is hosting the vigil at Albany's Hilton Garden Inn at 6 p.m. The vigil will also shed light on how many non-smokers get lung cancer. Organizers 80 percent of new diagnosis are either non-smokers or smokers who've given up years ago.

Albany Medical Center's chief surgeon will also speak about advancements in early detection.
