EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. -- Columbia High School in East Greenbush got a visit from the New York State Education Commissioner.

Dr. John King Jr. toured the school, while also speaking with teachers and students. King says he was impressed to see the district is ensuring that all students graduate ready for college. He says there are several programs designed for students most at risk and help them get back on track.

"I had the opportunity to meet with the teachers involved in those programs, as well as the students. It is impressive and they clearly built a culture where the adults feel 100 percent accountable for ensuring students are making academic progress and students are getting the support they need," King said.

The Commissioner also visited the learning lab, which provides opportunities for advanced learners. Some courses include Mandarin Chinese, American Sign Language and AP psychology.
