Kathy Sheehan announces she's running for mayor
ALBANY, N.Y. — Albany City Treasurer Kathy Sheehan announced her candidacy for Albany mayor Saturday at Washington Park.

She's says creating permanent jobs is at the top of her agenda, including investing in technology.

Sheehan is hoping to unseat the current mayor, Jerry Jennings. She says the city's government is letting the people down.

"From all corners of Albany, you've shared with me your frustrations, ineffective code enforcement, vacant and abandon buildings, inequities in the delivery of city services, and property taxes that are so high, particularly our seniors, are afraid they won't be able to stay in their homes," Sheehan said.

Jennings has not said publicly whether he will seek re-election next year, but he also has not given any indication he plans to retire.
