This week, the city council voted unanimously to sell the "ShotSpotter" system.

Just last month, the police department decided to pull the plug because of the program's unreliability.

The program's sensors were supposed to pick-up the sound of gunfire and then alert police, but the Chief says it would sometimes shoot blanks, relay bad locations, or not go off at all.

The department bought ShotSpotter four years ago with drug forfeiture money, and it cost them 39-thousand a year for upkeep.

The council is expected to officially approve the sale in December.

If no one bids on ShotSpotter, the comptroller can dispose of it.
