ALBANY COUNTY, N.Y. -- Nearly two weeks after Election Day and there is still no winner in the race for the 46th State Senate District.

Absentee ballots were being counted in Albany County on Monday. There are about 11,000 absentee and affidavit ballots to be counted in the five counties within the district. Absentee ballot counting is expected to wrap up by next Tuesday.

At the end of election night, Democrat Cecilia Tkaczyk led Republican George Amedore by 139 votes. Both sides say even though the process is moving forward, it could still be a while before a winner is declared.

"It's a prolonged process. Anytime you have an election this close, I mean, we don't do this for every single race obviously, we'd be here forever. It's only those cases, those races where there's a very close margin one way or the other," said Elections Commissioner Matthew Clyne.

"The key is to get this process started. It's going to be a long process, but we're hoping it moves quickly and every vote is counted," said Tkaczyk Press Secretary Gary Ginsburg.

Any contested ballots will be set aside and both sides will head to court November 28th.
