ALBANY, N.Y. -- Proud officers and their four legged friends strutted across the stage. Twelve canines and their handlers graduated from their 20 week training program in Albany.

The officers, along with their canine companions, took part in a number of training exercises, including basic obedience, handler protection, building searches and explosive or narcotic detection.

"A lot of times, you have missing children or adults, or even a suspect. A dog is great for tracking. They run into a wooded area, they can track that person. Find a missing child or the suspect," said Trooper Eric VanBramer.

The graduates include members of the New York State Police, Schenectady Police Department and the Albany County Sheriff’s office.
