ORANGE COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Brooklyn man is facing 15 years in state prison following a shooting involving an officer back in January in the Town of New Windsor.

According to police, Jardell Ward pled guilty to criminal possession of a weapon. Back in March, Ward was charged with attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon and a list of other charges.

The Orange County grand jury ruled that the officer involved was justified in shooting Ward.

Police say it all started when a car with three people inside, including a child, was pulled over on Route 32 January 14th. When Ward offered a fake name to police, he was asked to step out of the car and that's when the officer found a gun on him. Police say Ward then struggled with officers and one officer fired twice, hitting Ward once.

Ward is being held in Orange County jail without bail. He is scheduled to be sentenced early next year.
