New disaster recovery center to open

KINGSTON, N.Y. -- FEMA is opening another one of its Disaster Recovery Centers in the Hudson Valley this week to assist residents and small business owners with assistance following Sandy.

Unlike the registration centers in Kingston and Saugerties, this Disaster Recovery Center will provide residents and business owners with an opportunity to talk to FEMA and Small Business Administration representatives about their specific situations.

Ulster County was recently declared a disaster area by FEMA because of damage caused by Sandy. State Assemblyman Kevin Cahill says Ulster County individuals who initially were denied disaster assistance should reapply because of the declaration.

The center will be open at the Hudson River Maritime Museum from noon to 5 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

Residents can also apply for assistance by calling FEMA at (800) 621-3362, or by registering online at disasterassistance.gov.
