Shenendehowa High School students are remembering two of their own killed over the weekend in a car crash by wearing green to honor two victims. YNN's Erin Vannella joined us from Shen with more on the students' first day back at school since the crash.

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. -- Students at Shenendehowa High School wore green on Monday to remember two student athletes who died in a car crash over the weekend.

Chris Stewart and Deanna Rivers died in the crash on the Northway Saturday night. Both 17-year-old seniors were athletes at Shenendehowa High School. Stewart was the captain of the varsity football team, and Rivers was a second baseman and outfielder on the varsity softball team.

Shen junior Matthew Hardy and Shaker High senior Bailey Wind were also in Stewart's SUV. Both are at Albany Medical Center with serious injuries.

Grief counselors were on hand Monday. A memorial for the two students has been growing, with people bringing in flowers and notes to the school's courtyard. It has become a place for people to gather and grieve together.

"The last thing I remember is I was walking down the hallway and I saw Chris, and we made eye contact, and I smiled and slapped him on the stomach, and I said 'Chris, you're a good looking man.' You know, kinda hanging out and being friends. And he said the same thing," said one Shen student.

According to State Police, a vehicle driven by Dennis Drue, 22, of Clifton Park hit the teens' car from behind at a high rate of speed, causing it to go off the road and roll over multiple times. They believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

The DMV says since 2007, Drue has been issued several tickets for speeding, driving while using a cell phone and other traffic violations. His license was even revoked for nearly a year.

It's expected he'll be charged with second degree vehicular manslaughter, but that might change depending on pending results from a blood alcohol test.
