SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Earlier this year, Union sophomore defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers. Now he's been selected by his country.

Gostisbehere has been selected to the preliminary roster of the U.S. National Junior Team. He's one of 27 to be invited to tryout for the team.

The team will play in the World Junior Championships in Russia starting the day after Christmas. If he makes the team, he has to miss games for the Dutchmen.

Of the 27 guys on the preliminary roster, four will be cut before the start of the tournament. Gostisbehere will tryout for the next round of roster cuts the 16th through the 18th of this month down at the Rangers practice facility in Tarrytown, N.Y.
