GOSHEN, N.Y. -- One man was killed following a two-car accident in the town of Goshen on Friday morning. It happened on State Route 17M near Training Center Lane.

State Police say a 1997 Toyota SUV was traveling eastbound on 17M when the driver lost control on a wet, icy overpass. According to police, the SUV driven by Matthew Alston, 56, of Middletown, spun into the westbound lane, and a tractor trailer struck the passenger side. Police say the passenger, Jason Rodriguez, 28, of Middletown was not wearing a seatbelt. He was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, Alston was extricated from the SUV and taken to Orange Regional Medical Center for head and chest injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

Police say the conditions on the overpass were definitely a contributing factor in the accident. State Route 17M was closed for four hours while officials investigated.
