SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- A Schenectady family has received a special gift this holiday season.
Catherine Smith and her son, Camaryn, 12, will be able to spend the holidays in their brand new home, thanks to Habitat for Humanity and their Building Homes for the Holiday campaign. The process began two years ago, but the building of the home only started in July.
Family, friends, Habitat volunteers, board members and many others gathered at the house Sunday for a dedication ceremony to welcome the pair.
Smith says this is the best gift she could ever receive, especially during the holiday season.
"It's just a fantastic feeling. I can't even describe it. I’m so on a cloud nine. This is a dream come true. If I never get another gift for Christmas, this is all I need. I’m so blessed right now and happy,” Smith said.
Habitat for Humanity of Schenectady County has provided homes to over 35 families since 1993.
