Youkilis agrees to Yankees one year, $12 million deal

By: Web Staff

BRONX, N.Y. -- With the Yankees needing to fill a void at thirdbase, a familiar foe is now part of the pinstripe family.

The former Red Sox player Kevin Youkilis has agreed to a one-year, 12 million dollar contract with the Yankees. The 33-year-old infielder and former gold glove winner has a career .283 batting average. He also averages about 16 homeruns and 68 RBI a season.

He bats about the same when batting in the Bronx. His career batting average at Yankee Stadium, old and new, is about .273. He doesn't present a lot of power, however, only hitting six homeruns in New York.

Youkilis will most likely be the starter while Alex Rodriguez recovers from hip surgery. Rodriguez is set to have surgery by mid-January. He's estimated to be back by the All-Star break.
