COLONIE, N.Y. -- The Latham Circle Mall as know we know it will soon be a thing of the past. The Colonie town planning board approved the demolition of the mall.

One of the mall's owners, Grossman Development Group presented a plan in August to demolish part of the "dead mall" and build new stores. Right now, there's a JC Penneys, Lowes and Regal Theater in the mall but developers plan to create a new open-air style shopping center once the old mall is torn down.

In the town's final public meeting, developers presented solutions for neighborhood concerns about lighting, truck traffic, parking, noise and landscaping.

"I think this board really took into account the concerns of the neighbors and we voluntarily agreed to address a lot of those concerns so that we could be good neighbors and we can live harmoniously," said Andrew Brick, attorney for developer.

Within the next two months, developers hope to announce the new mall tenants for the new Shoppes at Latham Circle.

Demolition is scheduled to begin in the next few months. If all goes according to plan, the new shops will open in time for holiday shopping next year.
