TROY, N.Y. – There is still no verdict in the voter fraud trial in Troy. Jurors deciding the fate of the Rensselaer County Democratic Board of Elections Commissioner will be back in the morning, after deliberating all day Thursday.
Ed McDonough is accused of forging ballots in 2009 to secure the Working Families Party line.
Thursday, jurors submitted a note, asking the judge to let them leave early, at 2 p.m. Friday, so they could start the holiday weekend early. That request was denied.
Still, special prosecutor Trey Smith is sympathetic to jurors working during the holiday season.
"We can't have a break of more than 24 hours in deliberations, excluding holidays and weekends. Am I at the point yet where I would ask the judge to sequester the jury? Not at this time of year," said Smith.
This is McDonough's second trial. The first ended in a hung jury earlier this year.
