NEWBURGH, N.Y. -- Students at Newburgh Free Academy offer a helping hand to victims of Hurricane Sandy. A group of thirty students are heading down to a church in the Far Rockaway section of Queens, to bring supplies to those who have been going without ever since the storm hit.

The borough's Community Church of the Nazarene has served 40,000 hot meals to people affected by the storm, but since there are still about 15,000 residents without power, hot water, or heat, the church's supplies are running low.

With help from the school and the Newburgh community, the students will provide the church with many of the items needed to continue helping Sandy Victims.

"We collected money from McDonalds, Wal-Mart, Target, Stop and Shop, water...we have about 29 cases of water downstairs, we also have canned goods, blankets, clothing, and a ton of cleaning supplies," said organizer Ebony Clark.

The students leave Newburgh on Friday.
