UNITED STATES -- President Obama will return early from his Christmas holiday in Hawaii as Washington lawmakers continue their work to prevent the US economy from falling off the so-called fiscal cliff.
Automatic budget cuts and tax increases are set to begin in January if action isn't taken. Economists say it could send the country back into a recession
So far, the president and Republican leaders have been unable to break a stalemate in reaching an agreement.
