WATERVLIET, N.Y. -- As the New Year gets underway, the former Saint Patrick's Church in Watervliet is officially transferred over to the Nigro Companies of Albany. The state supreme court made the ruling official on Monday.

In December, a judge approved the $1 million sale of the historic building to Nigro Companies. They plan to knock down the church, rectory and school to build a Price Chopper and two smaller buildings on the site.

In November, city council members voted to re-zone the site to allow for commercial development.

The church had struggled for years to raise enough money for constant maintenance and repairs.
