As news spread of Mary Greco's death, people who knew her say they are in disbelief. She'd been a long-time parishioner at St. Luke's Church in Schenectady. Our Megan Cruz sat down with the church's priest.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- "Merry Christmas, Mary, and many more. And she said the same to me," said Father Dominic Isopo of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church. That's the last conversation he had with Mary Greco. The next thing he heard, the 82-year-old was found dead in her home on Stanford Street.

"Well maybe she had fallen or maybe it was a natural cause and they just discovered her," he said. Isopo was shocked to hear otherwise, the police calling her death suspicious.

"A woman who lived her life so peacefully and worked so hard for issues of justice and dignity for people would meet her end in this way," he said.

Isopo says he's known Greco through St. Luke's for at least 15 years. He says she's a former nun, but he doesn't know with which parish. While she left the order, Isopo says Greco continued missionary work in countries like Guatemala.

"She had a depth of spirituality," he said. "You didn't even need to talk to her to know there was something very spiritual about her. Whether it's just her countenance or how she carried herself, but there is a very quiet spirituality about her."

Isopo describes her as a rare person who will be missed.

"Many people will be shedding tears over her death, but I think knowing Mary, she'd rather have people smile because she lived," he said. "That was just the kind of person she was."
