ULSTER, N.Y. -- An Ulster man remains in critical condition after being struck by a train. It happened Saturday in the Town of Ulster near Boices Lane.
State Police say the 21-year-old was found after receiving a call from a CSX train operator about a body next to the tracks.
The man's arm and leg were severed, but police say he was conscious when they found him. He was transported to Westchester Medical Center where he underwent surgery.
Local fire officials say loitering on train tracks is both dangerous and illegal.
"People should remember that CSX railways is private property and that walking the railway is considered trespassing," said Sam Appa, Ulster Hose Company #5 Chief.
Police are still looking into why he was on the tracks and when the accident took place.
