HUDSON VALLEY, N.Y. -- Newly elected State Senator Terry Gipson was ceremonially sworn into office. Gipson now represents the 41st State Senate District, previously held by Steve Saland.
Saland was a 32 year veteran of the legislature and one of the four Republican senators who voted to legalize same-sex marriage in New York.
Neil Di Carlo also ran on the Conservative Party Line.
Gipson won the election in what was a long battle, including a lawsuit filed by Saland's campaign over absentee and affidavit ballots. In mid-December, Saland dropped his lawsuit and conceded the race.
Gipson says with the election behind him, he's ready to get to work. The first item on his agenda, he says, will be to reform the allocation of state funds to schools.
