ALBANY, N.Y. -- A rally is planned for Monday in Albany by advocates for a land bank program in Albany County.
The goal of the program is to reduce blighted housing in the county.
The rally comes ahead of Monday night's scheduled meeting of the county legislature, where lawmakers will decide whether to allow for a land bank and a board to oversee it.
Organizers have been meeting for months hoping to get approval and funding for the non-profit corporation. The land bank would be able to redevelop the properties for commercial to residential and even recreational purposes, keeping buildings from demolition.
The state is currently accepting applications for land bank proposals through January 30th.
