HUDSON VALLEY -- Windy conditions and cold temperatures come together to make for some unpleasant, and dangerous, weather in the Hudson Valley.

Sullivan County officials are warning against prolonged exposure to the cold. They said it's important to stay out of the cold as much as possible, and to be on the lookout for signs of hypothermia and frost bite.

"People have to go to work. They have to go to school and of course, those things have to be done but they should not linger when they are outside. They should get to where they need to get, get inside and to be under the protection during the period of time that we have this cold weather. It's not going to last forever but it can do some lasting damage if we don't protect ourselves," said Richard Martinkovic, Sullivan County Public Safety Commissioner.

The Sullivan County Federation for the Homeless is concerned with what the homeless will do in these cold temperatures.

There's no homeless shelters in the county, so if you need a place to stay in the overnight hours, you're advised to go to the local police station to warm up. The federation will be used as a warming station during the day from 8am to 4pm.
