ALBANY, N.Y. -- Albany High School students are learning what it takes to save a life, thanks to the help of one catchy tune.

The American Heart Association, Albany Fire Department, Albany School District and the Mayor's office have joined forces to create "Hands Only CPR." It's a program specially designed to teach young students how to react in a situation if someone is having a heart attack.

In one school period, students learn how to pump test dummies to the tune of the disco classic "Stayin' Alive."

Keeping in mind the rhythm of the song, they're able to pump a chest at more than 100 beats per minute which can double or triple a victim’s chances of survival.

"I have never in 35 years, ever, seen someone survive sudden cardiac arrest when we arrived on the scene and worked very, very hard if they were not doing CPR when we got there," said Bob Eling, American Heart Association Board Member.

Former principal of Albany High School and current mayor, Jerry Jennings, says he hopes to make "Hands Only CPR" a requirement in all New York schools.
