AMSTERDAM, N.Y. -- An Amsterdam man has been arrested after police say he stabbed a man in the leg during an argument. Police say it happened around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday on John Street.

Police say the victim and Jan Guerra-Santos, 21, the son of the victim's girlfriend, were fighting over family issues when Guerra-Santos stabbed the victim while he was sitting in his vehicle. Police say the victim tried to drive himself to the hospital, but suffered severe blood loss and was found in his car on Guy Park Avenue near the intersection of Kimball Street. He is being treated at Albany Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

Guerra-Santos has been charged with assault and is being held for arraignment.
