Cleaning woman accused of mail theft from Cobleskill Post Office

COBLESKILL, N.Y. -- An investigation into reported mail theft at the Cobleskill Post Office led to the arrest of a cleaning woman for grand larceny.

Cobleskill police received a complaint on Jan. 14 from the U.S. Postal Service Office of the Inspector General who began a joint investigation to identify the suspect. A surveillance detail was conducted, and on Jan. 30, police said Kelly Christman, 46, of Carlisle, who was contracted for cleaning services, was observed in the act of stealing mail items.

Police said Christman was found to be in possession of stolen mail items, controlled prescription medications that weren't hers, and a small amount of marijuana. During a search of her home, officials also found mail items that had been previously stolen.

Christman was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, petit larceny, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of marijuana. Additional charges are pending.
