ALBANY, N.Y. -- Nine members of the Albany Police Department were promoted to new positions. Albany Police Chief Steven Krokoff and Mayor Jerry Jennings promoted the members in a swearing-in ceremony at City Hall.

Among those promoted are sergeants, lieutenants and commanders. Krokoff says many have been in the department for several years, making the promotions a natural continuation for their careers.

"The individuals that were promoted today are not just test takers, they're leaders and they have already demonstrated their ability to lead and it's going to help us get over that next hump in our community policing philosophy," said Albany Police Chief Steven Krokoff.

Krokoff says the vision of the Albany Police Department is to make Albany the safest community in America.
